while i refuse to have my cards read by the fortune teller man on the mall, i will say that i'm quite taken by all things pertaining to my horoscope and dreams. call it contradicting, but i don't care. and what's feeding my "what does it all mean?" habit at the moment are the fortune-telling book of dreams and fortune-telling birthday book from our friends at chronicle books out in san francisco.
as it turns out, these quirky little gems have been around for quite awhile (harkening back to the 1930s), and thanks to our fabulous customers, rps is now officially in the know.
the birthday book has an eerie way of pinpointing personality traits based on the date of your birth. it's so fascinating to me how spot on things like that are...how do the stars (celestial, not celebrity) know?!
the book of dreams leaves a little more room for interpretation/creative license. the book lists key words and what they mean should they make an appearance during your nightly slumber. for example, you dream that you're riding an elephant through the downtown mall on your way to bodo's (hey, whoever said dreams were rational?!). well, according to the dream decoder, things are looking good when you dream about elephants ("portends good luck") and breakfast ("to eat breakfast in good company is a sign that...you will achieve your goals").
sure, sure, skeptics may say it's all nonsense, but let me put it this way: these little books provide a lot of fun, perhaps a little insight, and they could just be as reliable as the weather man...and maybe more.
