This April, Rock Paper Scissors (RPS) will be kicking off the second year of the “Ten Percent Tuesdays: Paper for a Cause” campaign – during which 10% of proceeds each Tuesday in a given month goes toward a cause of RPS’ choosing. RPS gave over $1,000 to three community partners in the inaugural year.
April is National Parkinson’s Awareness Month, and Rock Paper Scissors will be donating 10% of retail sales from each Tuesday in the month of April (excluding custom orders) to the University of Virginia’s Neuroscience research department, earmarked for Parkinson’s disease research.
Co-owner Dani Antol’s father suffers from Parkinson’s disease. He has tried multiple medications and trials; some have been more helpful than others. “Diseases like Parkinson's can often make us feel helpless. ‘Ten percent Tuesdays: Paper for a cause’ allows us a chance to feel like we can play a part in furthering change and fostering hope,” says Antol.
“2015 was an amazing and turbulent year for us. We celebrated 5 years of co-ownership, a full year in our new location, and discovered Dani had breast cancer at the age of 30. Through it all, the Charlottesville community rallied around us and provided an amazing network of support. Being able to give back in this way feels even sweeter this year! Our entire team is committed to not only beating our donation amount from last year, but helping to raise awareness for our wonderful non-profit partners. ” says Heather Haynie, co-owner.

Rock Paper Scissors will conduct “Ten Percent Tuesdays: Paper for a Cause” again in October in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness month, and in November for Pancreatic Cancer Awareness month.
