After the tragic events of August 12, 2017, rock paper scissors created this simple heart as a symbol of community, love, kindness and hope for our beautiful town. Our goal was to spread a message of unity and grace as our community heals. We could not have imagined the community's response and are honored that the heart has meant so much to so many people. We are proud to have been able to contribute over $20,000 to the Charlottesville Area Community Foundation (CACF) Heal Charlottesville Fund between August 14, 2017 and December 31, 2018. RPS wishes to thank everyone in our community and beyond for helping the C'ville Heart become such a success—a portion of each C'ville Heart purchase is donated to the Foundation—and we could not have done it without you!
"For so many people across our nation, Charlottesville is a hashtag, an event, a tragedy, and ground zero for the most vile expressions of exclusion and hatred. As you know, Charlottesville, Virginia, is also a home. For those of us who live here, we are a community of people healing from a violent and deeply painful attack. We are also a community that is reckoning with the reality that racism, oppression, and marginalization have a legacy that shapes the everyday experiences and opportunities of our neighbors. The truth is, our community, like most communities across this nation, does not work the same way for everyone. At the Community Foundation, we are committed to working toward a more equitable region where all residents belong and are able to thrive.
...generous support to our community allowed the Community Foundation to deliver a multi-faceted response in the wake of the 2017 violence. We supported the immediate and ongoing needs of the car attack survivors, ensured that there were sufficient trauma counseling services for residents, made targeted grants to the Jewish community, and held an innovative grant round to invest in work that is addressing present-day racial inequities, promoting inclusion, and preserving cultural and historical resources in communities of color. This work is transforming the community and its community foundation. "
Though our online store has been removed, we will continue to offer a selection of C'ville Heart products in our physical store and will continue to donate a portion of proceeds to CACF. Feel free to give us a call if you need something shipped to you.
