have you picked up your copy of Southern Living Magazine's special collector's edition? you'll find a 6 page spread of a styled photo shoot done in charlottesville.
The concept was a young couple buys a new log-cabin-style home in hunt country, Virginia; tired of a dreary winter (it's february), they invite some friends over for a "say goodbye to winter, say hello to our new home" outdoor dinner party. as avid sport hunters, the outing includes a hunt club starting at 2 pm; with clay pigeons and targets, there's activity for everyone. cocktails follow on the lantern-lit patio by the outdoor hearth. rosemary cinnamon cider and hot appetizers warm their bellies. over family style southern dinner (just check out that menu!) on the back porch, many cheers are said to toast the new home owners. afterward, the party retires to the bonfire, cuddling up under warm blankets and sipping hot cocoa with their antler swizzle sticks.
the day is one of contrasts: brown herringbone runners hint at winter, while the colorful curry yellow overlay nods yes to the forthcoming spring. antlers, feathers and large magnolia leaves pay homage to the south, while native american style blankets add an earthy element; mix and match china inherited from the couple's families is elevated by the antique cut crystal decanters. the cool crisp air is offset by the warmth of flannel, fire, and warm food.
